I know some of you guys are both into seeing the world and photography - or at least into buying cameras - so I thought you might enjoy having a look at the work of this fella, a friend of a very special person to me, who has been doing exactly that, travelling the globe and snapping his camera at it with some truly awesome results. I reckon he is very talented, and I admit I know nothing about photography but then again as John "I'm the bloody Pope" Cleese said I know what I like. See what you think, you are encouraged to leave your comments on the website - but if you do then write something meaty for God's sake, don't embarrass me with some "very nice photo" kind of blandness, c'mon let the beauty of the images touch you and tell all about it - or at least get into photo-geek mode and discuss really really hardcore stuff like light levels, exposure time or whatever.

More here and here (both in Spanish).

The Bears Can Keep It

posted by Jaitu at 20:53

Starting tomorrow morning we will be having some work done in the house. In order for this to happen we have had to clear out (as best we can) our bedroom and the spare room which I have taken over. With this in mind I decided it was time to get rid of my old Pentium III machine, which was mostly just taking up valuable space, and donate it to charity. I use my laptop for *everything* anyway. So having removed hard disks from the chassis and having packed anything remotely useful into boxes I powered up the laptop to check email and do some woek on the RTDL2 Store.
It was at this point that Windows XP decided to play a new and frustratingly different game. No matter what I chose from the boot menu it would simply reset the PC a few seconds later and leave me again faced with the same options. Needless to say my backup strategy is second to none. In truth my backup strategy is equal to none.
I sat with my head in my hands staring at the cyclic failure to launch contemplating all the design work sitting on the now inaccessable drives and mumbling alliterative phrases fat with the phoneme 'ph'.
Fortunately it turned out to be a relatively easy fix. A borrowed XP Pro installation CD and an hour or two letting CHKDSK perform it's /R flavoured magic and I had a fully functioning window onto a wider world. I do have a fully licensed install but as is the way of the PC OEM I didn't get a useful install CD with the pre-installed OS. ElDiablo loaned me his disk and completely failed to capitalise on the opportunity to evangelise about the spiritual goodness embodied in Linux.
The only thing I can put this event down to was my recent choice to use the hibernate option instead of a full shutdown. With the number of external devices attached to the laptop it's not very surprising that it got it's knickers in a knot when I tried to resume the session. Anyway, lesson learnt. Leave hibernation for the bears.

On a seperate note some more new products have arrived in the RTDL2 Store. A couple more Cold Roses shirts in dark navy (as requested by the Womble) along with some simple Orc inspired designs which you may hear more about should I ever follow up on a side project.

Hurrah!!! Van Halen have reformed....sort of. Edward Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth and Wolfgang Van Halen. Eddies son has taken over bass duties from Michael Anthony but the fact that Dave and Ed can be in the same room as each other is awesome. I have always had a soft spot for Van Halen, i have eclectic tastes in music which range from metal to blues, to jazz to country and mixing in a little bit of pop and rap. But i adore music which people probably find cheesy.
Van Halen is one of those bands, this year has seen some great reunions, Crowded house, Van Halen, Rage against the machine to name but a few and now i hear that there are talks amongst Led Zeppelin reforming with JohnBonhams son on drums!!!! How super excellent would that be? ROCK ON!!!
Also Del Amitri's singer, Justin Currie, has a solo album out this year called Waht is love for, he is possibly one of the greatest lyricists of all time with a truly innate ability to find a simple truth which strikes a chord with so many different people on so many different levels. And i am still yet to see the reformed Police at twickenham as well as Ryan Adams and The Cardinals!! Good year for music this one. Just thought i would share as im excited!!!

Keep watching the salad shredding machines of doom

Living above our means?

Well i got my new motorbike. One word...AWESOME!!!! very very fast and smooth. Weather hasnt been too kind and Suzuki's are not renowned for the ability to handle bad weather (rust and fall apart) so not wanting my £8K bike to rot before my eyes i have only been out on it on Sunday morning. Desperate for some good weather.

Tonight i am having a test drive in an Alfa romeo Brera. I wanted to get a new car for while and due to my current Celica starting to develop some issues (i call the car not unlocking for an hour and issue!!!) and the clutch starting to slip i decided it might be time to do something about it. Now here comes the rub...rather than buying a Focus or Astra or something cheap and sensible i start looking at Mercedes Alfas Audis BMW's etc. I think i am a brand whore! Trouble is i just used most of my savings buying my motorbike...so got to think carefully, always said i would never buy a brand new car on finance, so im looking at Alfa Brera ex demo, still more expensive than i wanted but you only live once and all that. Will post my thoughts on the Brera and my decision when i have worked out what i do. Im sure that the Sales guy will do his best to make sure i drive away in the car.

In the meantime check out the Cold Roses T shirts, my bands logo, looks awesome on the brown t shirt. Can we get a dark blue one as well?
